It was my first weekend of breaking out my Canon Rebel T5 and I still had no idea what I was doing. I was sitting on the couch with my wife Rose when I noticed her looking out the window. Something about the gentle lighting and muted color palette paired well with the red curtains and the faint orange tint of her hair. There was a beautiful simplicity about that moment.

During a quick coffee pitstop, I noticed these two workers on their morning break. It was a brisk Alaskan morning and the rain came and went periodically. Still, the coastal breeze was refreshing and the sight of the foggy mountains was worthy of a moment on the porch.

The Seward Boat Harbor is home to between 100 and 200 boats of all shapes and sizes. Some are little more than personal rafts for two to four people; others are yachts large enough to bring hundreds of people at a single time on tours of the Kenai Fjords. It’s a small town which means that anybody can stroll up and down the aisles for a closer look. As we wandered along, I noticed this reflection of my sister-in-law Amara. The reflection had a de-saturated look that is true to the old-time feel of the town.

If you know anything about my father-in-law Jerry, you know how difficult it is to catch him sitting still. Milking the goats, feeding the chickens, hauling hay and water. He’s busy all the time with very Alaskan-sounding chores. Here, on a family vacation, he takes a much needed breather to enjoy a breakfast of bacon and eggs.

Put two siblings in front of a camera and see what happens. They’ll immediately come up with a hilarious string of poses that you couldn’t have come up with if you tried. Rose and Joey are seen posing as … Italian mobsters? You’re guess is as good as mine.
